Why Tiger Woods’ Golf Swing Technique is so Effective and Senior Golfers can follow

The Tiger Woods golf swing technique sees Wood’s flexibility reach far back quite comfortably.

As he starts the swing, his level of fitness and muscle strength enables him to build up club head speed by turning his trunk and rotating quickly pushing the right leg forward. There is a minimum of energy waste as he maintains his posture over the golf ball.

Driving through, Woods uses the hips, shoulders and wrists to create a high initial ball speed. Research has shown that a couple of feet off the tee, the ball is usually traveling about 180 miles per hour. The average tour pro usually only manage 160 miles per hour.

Tiger’s golf swing technique can not be achieved on the basis of someone who is not physically fit or somebody who does not work out regularly. In fact, the achievement of an effective golf swing technique these days it is necessary to condition the muscles,

Gone are the days when golf was viewed as a leisure sport where players would move around in an electric golf cart to avoid breaking sweat.

This does not mean that a good golf swing technique calls for rigorous exercise of power training, and stretching. In fact, the most critical golf-specific exercises involve stretches and core strength training combined. There is also light weight lifting to build strength not the muscle.

Obviously golf-specific exercises are the only way to develop a good golf swing technique.

Do Not Think Too Much Just Hit It Don’t Let Slow Play Spoil Your Game

This is a good idea, hire a professional and make sure that he is a great player and teacher as well. If they just stand there and watch you without actually showing you the swing that can get you out of the sand trap, or hit the Fade or the proper way to putt then what are you paying for. The best teachers will try to understand what you can do first, and then adjust the advice to suit your needs.

If you’re ready to play, it’s important not to think too much before taking your shot. I have played with people who have taken so long over the ball trying to remember everything the pro taught them, you wonder how you ever got through 18 holes. It is impossible to think of a dozen things while thinking about the grip, where your feet are, where the ball is, keep an eye on the ball, keep your head straight, and so on.

My advice is see the shot first feel the shot and then do it. (pull the trigger)

As you’re learning the game there are certain principles which must be respected.

Here are two basic tips to help you improve your personal game.

An important foundation you need, no matter what shot you make, no matter what club you’re using is balance. You must be balanced when you swing the club..

And do not forget, of course; always keep an eye on the ball. Make sure that the stance allows you to see the ball at every point of the stroke.

Take your time and develop methods that work best for you. Unless you’re playing golf for a living, you have all the time in the world to get it right.

Like everything else in life, golf, takes time and practice and, if you take your time, and try to do everything as natural as possible, you will quickly get the first birdie and before you know it you will break 80 regularly.

Senior Golfers

As we age, golf’s challenges change. Fortunately, with an open mind, and some attention to detail, golfers of any age can play better than ever. The biggest challenge for most senior golfers is a lack of overall power.

As golf courses get longer and the game transforms from a game of precision to a game of power, senior golfers have a unique set of challenges to confront.

The key to maintaining power – Flexibility

Flexibility for golf is a term that has been bandied about the golf instruction industry for decades. But what does flexibility for golf really mean? Flexibility can be defined as a joint’s ability to move through a complete range of motion. As related to golf, flexibility allows the golfer to achieve the correct address position, and allows them to move EASILY through the entire swing without any feelings of tension or strain.

Studies have shown that flexibility naturally starts to decline after age 25.

A great tip I got from Gary Player was take a good 30 minute HOT Bath before going out to play Golf.

This will warm up your muscles before you stretch and then play.

Another flexibility hint – always warm up before you play. Your muscles will be looser, and you’ll reduce the risk of hurting yourself. Baseball players warm up by swinging a weighted bat. Golfers can warm up by using a weighted club.

While it may seem impossible to increase club head speed without swinging harder, the search for effortless power is something that is within the reach of every golfer.

The key to generating this feeling of effortless power is to learn to harness the power of centrifugal force while you swing the golf club.

Centrifugal force is a force that tends to move objects away from the center in a system undergoing circular motion. Centrifugal force is what keeps the water in a whirling bucket from spilling.

In the golf swing, centrifugal force is the reason that golfers like Ernie Els and Fred Couples look like they are hardly even swinging the club, but they are able to launch the ball in excess of 350 yards. It is often described as “letting the club do the work”.

How to buy the right equipment

Thinking of buying a new driver?

In the past 5 years the golf equipment industry has made gigantic strides in helping the world’s best golfers increase their driving distance. But what have they done for the average golfer?

How can the senior golfer put technology on his side, and squeeze a few more yards out of his swing?

The most important factor that determines driving distance is NOT club head speed.

The most important factor is making solid contact.

For every half inch that your strike is off center you will lose 10 yards in distance.

In my experience most golfers make the best contact with a driver that is 43.5 inches long depending on their physical size.

Consider getting a driver that is 43.5 inches long or shorter.

So what can you do about it?

My recommendation is to look up a PGA professional in your neighborhood that has a launch monitor and a large selection of drivers with different lofts and lengths for you to experiment with and go for a proper driver fitting. (By the way, almost every major company fitting cart that I have ever seen only has one length of driver (45 inches) which is the most critical component of club fitting.)

If you cannot find a launch monitor in your area, try a driver with 12 degrees of loft and a 43.5 inch shaft and I am sure that the results will have you ten yards further down the fairway.

The aging process causes significant changes in your connective tissue (ligaments and tendons) and eventually decreases your ability to maintain optimal flexibility. To play your best golf later in life, it takes a concerted effort to maintain your flexibility.

Shooting longer distances for seniors

I have been indulged in teaching senior's golf for around 15 years and one of the most common things that most of the older people seem to want is to be able to shoot longer distances. We all know that the most inevitable part of ageing is loss of our strength, speed, and flexibility and so distance is usually lost. That may be true to certain points especially if you have had any injuries in the past of even if you may be living a sedentary lifestyle. But by simply staying active these effects of ageing can be minimized and so a number of things can be done to increase your distance shooting even if you are getting older.

You can certainly increase the level of your fitness including your strength, endurance and flexibility. Gym may certainly be the best option. Try getting started with a weight program at gym as it is certainly recommended. You simply don't have to start with lifting weights just like weightlifters to increase your distance. A moderate program would in fact work its wonder. You can contact a number of good fitness trainers to instruct you and coach you on how to get started. For improving your flexibility yoga would certainly be the best. Attending yoga classes will actually help you to learn the proper method of breathing and make you feel great. For improving your endurance try walking long distances. You need to take care if you start with any new health care programs your medical professional is always aware of it. It has to be certified by him.

In addition to all of your physical programs a little bit of golf lessons are also compulsory. These lessons will simply help you make your swing much more simpler. With age you need to change the style of your swing. You may need some of the better lessons in a repeated period of times. So always try choosing one of the best professional who can give you your golf lessons. These lessons will actually help you develop correct form of swing along with a good mental picture of the swing and feeling. Good and perfect mechanics and right swing concept is what will help you go a long way when speaking of increasing your distance.

It is also very much important that you have the perfect equipments that fit you personally so that you can concentrate on maximizing your potential. Some of the most crucial ingredients in these custom fit equipments are lie angle, shaft flex, overall weight, swing weight, grip size and club length. A number of other variables are also present that certainly does have impact. If you are taking lessons from a professional he can certainly help fit a set for you in few minutes.

So the fact is that just because you are getting aged it does not mean that you are going to hit the ball in the nearby hole. You simply need to decide to get started with the things that we have just discussed. All of these things are very much important if you want to increase your distance so you have to be sure all of this works just fine when combined together. And if you combine everything perfectly and work it out then before you may know you will be hitting more distances and farther away. You just need to keep up with your practice.

There are a number of senior golfers that have walked the great hall of fame in the golf history. Harry Cooper who was born in 1904 and living to the ripe old age of 96 won around 31 tours in his game history. It is believed that you can play the game of gold better in you senior age. He had even coached the Westchester Country Club till his age was 93. Earlier he had trained golf lessons for 26 years in New York. One of his greatest achievements was Vardon Trophy which he had won in 1937and was a renowned golfer of his time.

Ben Hogan is also considered as one of the greatest golfers of the era. He lived from 1912 to 1997 and was very much famous for his theory of golf swing and his legendary ball striking abilities. He has a credit of around 64 tour wins including around 9 major championships. He had managed to turn to pro at his young age of 17.

He had won his first tour event in the year 1932 and managed to win a grant sum of $8.50, and was on his way to win his 63 pro tournaments even after he faced a brutal accident in Texas involving a bus in 1949. He also managed to walk the hall of fame as a member and won a Vardon Trophy around 3 different times. A number of golf clubs sure does exist that bore his name till date and most of these are still regarded as some of the best golf clubs.

Tommy Bolt is another such name in the history of senior golf. He is better known as having short temper in the green field. He had managed to gain a nick name for himself as “Thunder or Terrible Tommy”. Born in 1918 he had managed to play golf till he was 80. He had also won around 15 tours and one of the major tournaments in 1958. He was also chosen for the Ryder Cup Team and won the PGA Seniors back in 1969. He certainly was one of the best known golfers of his time.

Cary Middlecoff is another such name in the history of golfers. Born in 1921 and lived till 1988 had managed to win nearly 40 pro tournaments. He also managed to win Vardy Trophy in 1956 for having one of the lowest scoring averages. Three times he played Ryder Cup and was also known as world hall of fame member in Tennessee hall of sports.

Cary was a dentist by profession before he had joined PGA and also managed to become television commentator for golf. He had also written a book on golfing which is commonly called as Golf Swing. He had played the Walker Cup at the age of 60. He has a total of 29 PGA tour wins to himself and tournaments in Japan and Australia. He is also counted among some of the best golfers of his time.

There are a number of more names that can be added to this list and the list could simply grow bigger. All of them were senior golf players. So if you are a senior player you also have a chance to make it till Hall Of Fame because if they can do it you too can.
