Golf Injuries: Keeping Safe on the Green

If you enjoy playing lots of golf, chances are that in your lifetime you will have the unfortunate instance of having a golf injury. This will ensure that your muscles and joints have a chance to relax again. Stretching a second time will also help to prevent you from becoming sore in certain areas in the days to come.

If you find yourself having a tiny bit of pain in a certain area, but it is not bad enough to stop you from playing, realize that you may have the beginnings of a cumulative injury. It is highly important that you do not ever ignore joint pain or tenderness, any type of swelling, numbness, or a reduced range of motion. If any of these things occur - even in small amounts - it is vital that you see a doctor. Ignoring the situation and continuing to play golf will make a small injury into a large one.

If you get an acute injury while playing golf, you must seek immediate attention as well. First, stop what you are doing right away, and then wrap your injured area in a bandage that is tight enough to induce pressure. If necessary, put a bag of crushed ice (or a cold compress) on the injury for no more than fifteen minutes at a time, making sure the area has a chance to warm up before you freeze it again. Finally, get yourself to a doctor who can better help your injury to heal.

Golf Exercises For Crushing Drives

In order to succeed in golf you must first refine the tools you use to play the game. This means buying the best possible clubs you can afford to buy, and getting your body into golf playing shape. The more attention you pay to the different areas of your body, the better results you will get on the golf course. In order to increase the effectiveness of your driving, you need to understand what parts of the body are important to driving and work on those parts to improve power and distance.

Control for your drives comes from your shoulders and upper arms. These areas are the part of your upper body that you use to keep the shaft of your driver straight, and produce the desired follow through. To develop these muscles properly you should do a series of arm extensions with heavy weights in each hand. Find a weight that you can lift with one arm, and from a seated position reach down and hold on to a weight in each hand. Simultaneously, and slowly, bring your arms straight up until they are parallel with your shoulders. Hold them there for the count of three, and then slowly bring them back down. Repeat this as often as you can.

They say that the best grip in golf is a soft grip, and while this is very true it still takes strong hands to maintain a soft but effective grip. Ideally you would like to get spring loaded hand grip exercisers that are very common and inexpensive. Use them whenever you have spare time, and always remember to use them equally on both hands. You may still be left handed or right handed, but you will need strength in both hands to properly grip the golf club.

One of the more common golfing related injuries is a pulled hamstring. A loose and warmed up hamstring allows for maximum flexibility, and this can add distance to your drive. Work with a professional trainer or physical therapist to develop a series of exercises to help you stretch your hamstring, and then do them on a regular basis. One of the easier hamstring exercises is to lie flat on your back, and then extend your leg straight up. That is difficult enough if you have not regularly exercises your hamstring before, but to add to it you should slowly pull your leg back towards your chest and hold it in position for a count of five. If this is too difficult to do with your arms, then use a belt to pull your leg towards you. Do this exercise slowly and gradually, and remember to do it every day.

People usually neglect the lower back until it gives out on them in a painful and frustrating way. Strengthening your lower back will make your golf stance easier to maintain, and it will bring power to your swing. Lie on the floor face down with your hands extended out from your shoulders a flat on the floor. This exercise will seem like a push up, but the difference is that you are only pushing up your upper body. Extend your arms and then hold yourself in that position for a count of five. Slowly exhale and lower your upper body and then repeat as many times as you can. Another effective back strengthening exercise is to stand straight up, extend your arms out in front of you, and then slowly squat down as though you were going to sit in a chair. Once you have reached the seated position, slowly stand back up. Do these in sets of ten for as much as you can. Never overdo it, and always stop exercising when you feel tired or when you start to feel discomfort.

Improve Your Game Without Going To The Driving Range

Day after day you look at the full driving range and look over at the practice putting green and it is always the same story. There are only a few players working on or even warming up their putting stroke while the driving range is lined up from end to end with golfers trying to improve their full swing. This continues to happen at country clubs and golf courses all over the world even though it has been proven many times over that you can lower your score much faster by improving your short game and even more precisely your putting stroke. To improve your scores and lower your handicap, follow these putting fundamentals for your putting stroke.

Making sure that your shoulders are square to the target line is an important putting fundamental that is often over looked. Many players use an open stance while they putt. Allowing your feet and hips to be open at address is fine. However, the shoulders must be square to your target line. As you bend over and let your arms hang freely to make your putting stroke. Your arms will naturally swing back and forth in the direction the your shoulders are pointing.

Since while you are putting you must stand to the side of the golf ball, your eyes must be over the golf ball. We have all heard this one before, correct? In addition, your eyes should not be ahead of the golf ball either. To learn where your eyes are positioned during your putting stroke, simply take your putting stance. Then drop a golf ball from the bridge of your nose and between your eyes. The ball should drop onto the ball on the ground or just behind it on the target line. There are also many golf putting aids that can assist you with where you are positioning your eyes while putting.

In order to strike a solid putt, the putter head should travel low to the ground on the backswing as well as the forward swing. This allows the putter head move back and through to the target line and gives you the best chance to make solid contact. Solid contact not only is important to put the ball on the correct line, it is imperative for your distance control.

If you are hitting a different spot on the putter on every single putting stroke, it will be impossible to hit two balls in a row the same speed or distance. Translating this to the golf course, even if you do get the putt started on the correct line, the putt will typically end up short of the hole because they have not been hit in the center of the putter face.

The last thing you should practice to improve your putting stroke is to simply hold your finish for a count of three seconds. This is important for a couple of reasons. Holding your finish will make sure that you are accelerating during your stroke. In addition, this will give you time to reflect on what went well and what could have gone better.

Most of the senior golfers today complain that they are simply not able to hit the ball as far as they used to do earlier. There is an old saying that our life consists of two parts. The first half part of the life usually consists of all the capacity that we need to enjoy it without any chances. The second half part of our life consists of the chances that are simply left without much capacity to enjoy it. This saying must surely have been said by one of the golf lovers. Most of the golfers in the first half of their life used to have the capacity to simply thwack the ball around 250 yards off the tee easily with one swing. But the works simply kept most of the golfers away from practice grounds so they never got enough chance to play the game.

But after retirement most of them simply tend to come back to the golf course as they only have chance to play but they simply seem to lack all the capacity as it certainly has its limits with the growing age. So how can most of the senior golfers try to increase their capacity as they are left with more time to enjoy the play? One of the senior golfer who is also an avid golfer wrote to me after reading one of my column on the senior golfers. He certainly had included a very good advice for most of the average retiree golfers most of whom are simply not able to break 100 yards.

He wrote that playing at an old age certainly is a different game but tat certainly does not mean that the game cannot be improved. Try to follow certain tips and take up a few lessons from the professional player. It certainly will help you to improve your game. Golf can be perfected by practice, so the more you practice the better you get in this game. I personally think that most of the senior golfers should in fact take a lesson or two from this pro. You should avoid letting your club rest in your bag in the middle of the game. If you need to grove all of your swing then you have to try to swing a club around five to six times a week in your garage, on the lawn, in the living room, but try to be more careful or else you may tend to smash your wife's face.

The more you practice swinging the better hold you get in your game. So if you have not yet practiced harder then its time you get on with your practice. Practice certainly does not mean you need to go to the golf course daily. Observation is a good way of learning. Try to observe the game others play. Try to observe the move they make. You may get a lot of help by observing other peoples moves. Watch the game that women play as they tend to swing their body more slowly as compared to man. You can observe their swinging form much better. Notice their arms and hands. They hang their arms straight down and their hands as very much close to their bodies. Most of them may even choke up on the club to get better control.

In the game of golf control is everything. It makes no difference if you drive 235 or 200 the main objective is that you drive it straight. Try practice putting green other than a fade. You need to have a more flexible body. So try drinking more water as it not only cuts down heat but also adds flexibility by lubricating the joints. Finally you need to try to hit the balls with much longer irons. Try implementing a few things and your game will certainly improve.
